Practor has no password and no separate sign-up page. You give it an email address, click the link it sends, and answer three questions. That's your account, and it takes about twenty minutes to get from there to a practice you can book into.

Start at [dashboard.practor.app](https://dashboard.practor.app).

## Create your account

The sign-in page says **Sign in or create your account**. One page does both, because Practor can't tell which you are until it has your email address.

Enter it and press **Sign in with email**. A link arrives in your inbox. Open it on the same device and you're signed in.

![The sign-in page, which creates an account and signs you in from one field](https://res.cloudinary.com/drmnydbcs/image/upload/c_limit,w_1600/f_auto,q_auto:good/v1/help/onboarding/sign-in.jpg?_a=BAMAOGDh0#1440x900 "One page does both, because it cannot tell which you are yet.")

> [!NOTE]
> A waitlist page instead of a link means Practor hasn't opened to your address yet. An invitation from a practice does get you past it, so if you were invited and still see the waitlist, ask whoever invited you to check the invitation hasn't expired.

## Say how you'll use Practor

| Your answer | Who it's for | What happens |
| --- | --- | --- |
| I treat patients | Anyone running consultations | You get a practitioner profile and create the practice |
| I work at a practice | Reception, admin, practice managers | You join a practice someone else created |
| I am a patient | People booking their own care | You get the patient side of Practor |

This can't be changed later, and the screen says so.

![The three answers to "How will you use Practor?"](https://res.cloudinary.com/drmnydbcs/image/upload/c_limit,w_1600/f_auto,q_auto:good/v1/help/onboarding/journey-selection.png?_a=BAMAOGDh0#1440x900 "The screen says this cannot be changed later, and it means it.")

If you both treat patients and run the practice, choose **I treat patients**. That's the answer that lets you create the practice.

**I work at a practice** only appears if a practice has already invited you, because it's the answer that joins someone else's practice rather than starting one. If you're reception or an admin and the screen offers you two answers, ask the practice to invite you first.

## Fill in your details

**Your details** takes a title, a first name and a last name. A photo is optional and can be added later.

These are your details rather than the practice's. Use the name you practise under. It's what a colleague sees next to a note you wrote and what a patient sees on an appointment confirmation.

![The Your details step, with title, first name and last name](https://res.cloudinary.com/drmnydbcs/image/upload/c_limit,w_1600/f_auto,q_auto:good/v1/help/onboarding/your-details.png?_a=BAMAOGDh0#1440x900 "This is the name a colleague and a patient both see.")

## Set up your practice

| Field | What it's for |
| --- | --- |
| Practice name | What patients see, on your booking page and in messages from you |
| Country your practice is registered in | Sets your tariffs, currency, insurers and claim rail |
| Description | One sentence on what the practice does |
| Practice logo | Optional. Square, at least 200x200px |

> [!IMPORTANT]
> Practor runs one country at a time, because the insurance codes, the claims rail and the privacy rules differ in each one. Choose a country Practor isn't open in and your practice is still created and your details are saved, but you'll be held at a page that says so until it opens.

![The practice step, with name, country, description and logo](https://res.cloudinary.com/drmnydbcs/image/upload/c_limit,w_1600/f_auto,q_auto:good/v1/help/onboarding/your-practice.png?_a=BAMAOGDh0#1440x900 "Country decides your tariffs, currency and insurers.")

Your dashboard opens once this is saved. You can't book anyone in yet.

## Add your professional details

Onboarding doesn't ask for your specialty. Two ways to get to it:

The **Setup guide** in the sidebar lists it as a step, with a **Set up professional details** button that takes you straight there. That's the easy route while the guide is still on your sidebar.

Otherwise, open the account menu at the top right, hover over your name, and press the small settings icon that appears beside it. That opens your own profile settings, where **Professional details** is the second tab.

| Field | What it decides |
| --- | --- |
| Medical specialty | Which procedure and diagnosis codes load for you |
| Country of practice | Your tariffs, and which insurers you can bill |
| Governing authority | The professional body you're registered with |
| Registration number | What shows on invoices and claims that need it |

Specialty goes two levels deep: a broad one, then a sub-specialty if there's one that fits. Set it before you bill anything. Changing it afterwards means recoding work you've already sent out.

![The Professional information card with specialty, country, governing authority and registration number](https://res.cloudinary.com/drmnydbcs/image/upload/c_limit,w_1600/f_auto,q_auto:good/v1/help/setup/professional-details.png?_a=BAMAOGDh0#848x417 "Specialty decides which code systems load for you.")

> [!TIP]
> If your discipline isn't listed, choose the closest parent and [tell us](https://dashboard.practor.app/support/new). Practor is built for every specialty, and we'd rather add a code set than have you work around a gap.

## Create your billing profile

Go to **Settings → Billing profile** and press **Set up billing profile**. Only an owner can do this.

The practice name you chose during onboarding is what patients see. An invoice prints something different: the legal and trading name from here, the billing address, and the bank details your patient pays into. You can't send an invoice until this exists.

Two lists appear underneath it once you save. **Tax & funder registration** holds your VAT and funder numbers. **Payment options** holds the accounts that show on an invoice.

Add a VAT number only if the practice is registered for VAT, because that's what puts VAT on its invoices. Until you add one, the profile's **VAT** row reads **Not registered. Invoices have no VAT**. Adding or removing the number reprices any invoice still in draft.

## Build a schedule and set your availability

You need a schedule before anyone can book a time, including patients booking online and [Ava](/help/ava/what-ava-can-do) taking calls.

A schedule is built from the calendar, under **Schedules**, and it holds the days you work and the hours inside them.

![The Schedules menu open on the calendar, with the plus in its header](https://res.cloudinary.com/drmnydbcs/image/upload/c_limit,w_1600/f_auto,q_auto:good/v1/help/setup/schedules-menu.png?_a=BAMAOGDh0#1440x900 "The plus sits in the menu header, not on the toolbar.")

[Set your availability](/help/scheduling/set-your-availability) walks the form, and has the way you block out breaks and days off.

## Invite your team

Go to **Settings → Team**, enter a colleague's email address, and choose **Admin** or **Member**.

That role and the answer they give during their own onboarding decide what they can see, and the two work differently. [Invite your team](/help/getting-started/invite-your-team) has both, including the combination a practice manager needs.

![The Team members card with the invite row](https://res.cloudinary.com/drmnydbcs/image/upload/c_limit,w_1600/f_auto,q_auto:good/v1/help/setup/team-invite.png?_a=BAMAOGDh0#806x36 "An email address and a role is the whole invitation.")

## Book a test appointment

Book yourself into the schedule you just made, then cancel it.

It checks the whole chain at once: the slot appears where you expect, the reminder gets sent, the cancellation returns the time to availability.
