Set up a physiotherapy practice in South Africa
Pick Physiotherapy in your professional details and Practor loads the SASP codes. Then enrol for claims and book your first course of treatment.
This article covers what's particular to physiotherapy in South Africa. Everything else about setting up works the way Set up your practice describes.
Choose Physiotherapy as your specialty
Your specialty decides which codes you start with, so set it before you bill anything.
- Open the account menu at the top right, hover over your name, and press the settings icon beside it.
- Go to Professional details.
- Under Medical specialty, choose Physiotherapy.
- Under Country of practice, choose South Africa.
- Under Governing authority, choose HPCSA - Health Professions Council of South Africa.
- Under Registration number, enter your HPCSA registration number.
- Press Save changes.
Each physiotherapist in the practice does this on their own profile. The registration number you save here is the one Practor puts on your claims.
Check the codes you start with
Once you've saved, Practor gives you these code systems:
| Kind of entry | What you start on |
|---|---|
| Procedures | The SASP coding structure, with its billing rules |
| Diagnoses | ICD-10, South African edition |
| Observations | LOINC |
You can see them under Code systems in the same settings. Procedures shows Using default, and for a physiotherapist in South Africa the default is the SASP structure. Pick another system there if you bill something else. Choose the codes your practice uses explains how the practice's settings and yours fit together.
Bill a session with SASP codes
Record the procedures and the diagnosis on the encounter while you treat. When you create the invoice, Practor turns each procedure into a priced line and applies the SASP billing rules as it goes, such as Rule 008 on a second procedure. You can change any line before you finalise.
The SASP structure's numbered modifiers are under Billing rules when you edit a line. That's where you'll find 0014 for treatment in hospital and 0013 for travel. Set what you charge on an invoice covers prices, modifiers and the codes that can't be billed together.
Enrol for claims
You enrol each physiotherapist once, before their first claim. The enrolment asks you to confirm two numbers:
| Field | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Practice (BHF) number | The practice's billing profile |
| HPCSA registration number | The registration number on that physiotherapist's professional details |
If either is missing, the pencil beside it takes you to the screen where you add it. Submit a claim to a medical insurer has the rest of enrolment and the checks that run before a claim is sent.
Claim for a home visit or a hospital session
On the claim sheet, Place of service starts on Private consulting room. Change it before you press Submit claim:
| Where you treated the patient | Place of service |
|---|---|
| In your rooms | Private consulting room |
| At the patient's home | Home |
| On a ward, admitted | Inpatient hospital |
| At a hospital, not admitted | Outpatient hospital |
Book a course of treatment
Book the first session and set it to repeat. Under Recurrence, choose Weekly on the day, then under Ends choose After occurrences and enter the number of sessions. Practor checks every session against your diary and lists any clash before you save. Run your calendar covers repeats in full.
