Switch accounts, profiles and practices
Switch the practice you are in, the profile you work as, or the account you signed in with. The three look alike and do different things.
Practor has three switchers, and they look alike enough that people reach for the wrong one. From widest to narrowest:
| What it is | Where it lives | |
|---|---|---|
| Account | A sign-in, with its own email address | Account menu, top right |
| Profile | How you work: practitioner, practice support, or patient | Account menu, top right |
| Practice | Which practice you're working in | Practice switcher, bottom of the sidebar |
One account can hold several profiles. One profile can belong to several practices. Most people only ever use the bottom row.
Switch practice
Open the practice switcher at the bottom of the sidebar and pick another one. Your patients, calendar and invoices all change with it.
Everything in the product is scoped to the practice you're in. If a patient you expected isn't in the list, check the switcher before you go looking for the record.
Only a practitioner profile can create a new practice, using New practice in that same switcher.
Switch profile
Profiles in the account menu. The page reloads, because a practitioner and a patient use genuinely different parts of Practor and the whole shell changes.
You'd hold more than one profile if you both treat patients and are a patient yourself. Your own appointments and records sit under your patient profile, separate from the practice you work in.
Add a profile asks the same question onboarding did, in the same words:
- I treat patients, as many times as you like. One person can work under more than one arrangement.
- I am a patient, once. A second patient profile would split your own clinical history in two.
Practice support isn't on that list. It's a persona a practice grants you through an invitation, not one you can create for yourself, so the way to get it is to be invited. See Invite your team.
Switch account
Signed in accounts in the account menu, for when you hold two separate Practor sign-ins on different email addresses. With one account signed in there is nothing to switch between, so the section isn't drawn at all: it appears once a second account signs in on the same browser.
Both stay signed in on this browser and you move between them without entering anything. You already proved who you were when each one signed in.
Signing out asks which of them you mean. Sign out… opens two choices:
| Choice | What it does |
|---|---|
| Just, followed by your name | Signs you out. The other accounts stay signed in on this browser |
| Everyone | Signs every account on this browser out, at once |
With one account signed in there's nothing to ask, so the row reads Sign out and goes straight through.
Warning
Everyone covers this browser and nothing else. A session you left open on another device stays open.
Which switcher you want
| You want to | Use |
|---|---|
| See a different practice's diary | Practice switcher |
| Look at your own appointments as a patient | Profile |
| Work under a completely separate login | Account |
If something's missing rather than wrong, it's almost always the practice switcher. A record filed under one practice is invisible from another, by design.
