What Cliniko does well

Cliniko was founded in Melbourne in 2011, and by Cliniko's own account the company has stayed independent of outside investment. Over 65,000 health professionals use Cliniko.

You pay by how many practitioners you have. Every plan has every feature, and you can add as many admin and reception users as you need. There's a 30-day free trial, and you can cancel whenever you like.

Patients book themselves in at any hour, Cliniko sends the SMS and email reminders, and when someone cancels you can offer the gap to your wait list. Telehealth is built in. You design your own treatment note templates, as many as you like.

Cliniko lists 97 connected apps, among them claiming apps for Australia, the UK and New Zealand. If you're coming from one of a long list of other systems, Cliniko's team moves your data across for free, as long as you book the transfer in advance.

Cliniko stores your data in Australia, the UK, Canada or Ireland, depending on where you sign up. An account from anywhere else, South Africa included, is held in Australia.

Who should choose Cliniko

  • You practise outside South Africa. Practor is open to South African practices only, and Cliniko holds your data in Australia, the UK, Canada or Ireland.
  • You claim from Australian, UK or New Zealand funders. Cliniko connects to apps that send those claims, such as Tyro Health for Medicare and Effra for UK insurers.
  • You want plenty of add-ons to choose from. Cliniko lists 97 connected apps.
  • You're moving from Coreplus, Jane, Nookal, TM3, WriteUpp or Zanda. Cliniko's team moves your data across from those systems free of charge.

Where Practor differs

  • You bill South African medical insurers. Practor sends the claim straight from the invoice and runs benefit checks, so nothing gets retyped into a second system. We found no claiming to South African medical insurers on Cliniko's site.
  • You'd rather pay in rand, and only for what you use. Cliniko is priced in US dollars by practitioner bracket. Running your practice on Practor is free for everyone on the team, and you pay per claim, per benefit check, per message and per Ava credit.
  • You want the consultation written up while you talk to the patient. Ava, Practor's AI scribe, does that, and you accept or decline each entry she writes. She's billed per use, with no subscription.

How switching works

Practor doesn't import straight from Cliniko or from any other system. Moving takes three steps, and our team does the second one with you.

  1. 1Export your patient list from Cliniko as a CSV file. If you're not sure how, ask Cliniko.
  2. 2Our team sets up your practice with you and imports the file. You match the file's columns to Practor's fields and check each one before anything is saved.
  3. 3Appointments, notes and invoices don't come across. Keep your Cliniko account, or a full export from Cliniko, so you can still look up a patient's history.
